The Municipal Mayor’s Office of the Central District (AMDC) in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela has implemented measures to facilitate the collection of Real Estate Tax (IBI) and other fiscal obligations. In late August, the municipality issued a reminder for property owners to pay taxes by August 31 to avoid surcharges. For debts accumulated through 2025, the AMDC provided options for payment arrangements at specific municipal offices. By mid-September, the focus shifted to a municipal tax amnesty program. This initiative allows citizens to settle outstanding obligations incurred through December 31, 2025, without interest, fines, or surcharges. The amnesty period is set to expire on October 12, 2026. Juan Carlos Callizo, the municipality’s manager of Revenue and Financial Control, noted that for taxpayers unable to settle debts in a single lump sum, payment arrangements are available. Payments can be processed through any banking institution authorized by the municipality. Revenue from these collections is designated for municipal works, projects, and development programs within the Central District.
