In late August, Czech Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlíček reported that gas availability for the upcoming heating season was sufficient. He noted that the Czech Republic aimed for 70% storage occupancy by September 1, exceeding the 60% requirement. While storage levels were high, warnings were issued that rushed purchasing could increase prices in the following year. By late September, similar discussions regarding energy security emerged in Slovakia. While the opposition party SaS raised concerns about low gas storage levels ahead of winter, the Slovak Ministry of Economy dismissed these claims as “misleading.” The Ministry stated that Slovakia was among the five best-prepared EU countries regarding storage capacity relative to consumption. As of late September, Slovak storage levels stand at 53.73% capacity, containing 19.79 TWh of energy. State-owned company SPP projected reaching continues to aim for a target of 17.5 TWh by the first half of October, which would constitute a record volume for the winter season.
