Czech and Slovak municipal sports venue construction ~~continues~~

From early May to late July 2026 Czech municipalities launched a wave of new and refurbished sports, cultural and educational facilities. Winter‑sport upgrades began with Opava’s ice‑rink overhaul and Olomouc’s plan for an artificial‑ice hall, followed by announcements of larger arenas such as Pardubice’s 22,000‑seat hockey venue, a 5,000‑seat football complex in Prague, Zlín’s conversion of a cinema into a cultural centre and the restoration of Prague’s Industrial Palace. June saw flagship builds including Brno’s 12,000‑seat T Arena, energy‑efficient retrofits at Jablonec’s Střelnice stadium, the Strakonice winter arena and multi‑purpose venues in Mělník, Přibyslav, Plzeň and Prague 13, as well as institutional projects like a new exhibition hall at the Prague Congress Centre and the Hotel Škoda redevelopment in Plzeň. Budget overruns at the historic Slavie cultural house in České Budějovice triggered a 177 million‑CZK subsidy and a regional grant programme for Vítkovsko and Osoblažsko continued funding skate‑parks, ski slopes and the Slavie project, while Olomouc backed a feasibility study for a 236 million‑CZK indoor sports hall in Nemilany (planned for 2028‑29). Smaller July projects included a wooden ball track in Kaplice, a pétanque court in Prostějov, artificial‑turf replacement in Jablonec nad Nisou and a fully renovated sports complex in Vlachovo Březí, whose reopening on 18 July featured a match against Dynamo České Budějovice. The Paradráha ski area near Trutnov received a 3.3 million‑CZK barrier‑free public‑toilet funded partly by the State Environmental Fund. In late July Brno’s 160 million‑CZK multi‑purpose sports hall, featuring a 26 × 46 m arena and 300 seats, completed final inspections and is set to open at the end of August. The Olomoucký region launched a 69 million‑CZK grant programme for sports‑venue repair and construction across 109 municipalities, funding projects such as a new hall in Charváty and roof work at Uničov’s winter stadium.
