Efforts to reconstruct areas affected by the 2016 Central Italy earthquake have reached a significant stage. Guido Castelli, the Extraordinary Commissioner for Reconstruction, reported that the process has gained momentum through government funding and regional cooperation, moving beyond initial stages to produce “documented, concrete results.” Marking the tenth anniversary of the seismic event, officials from ERAP Marche conducted inspections of construction sites in Piedilama and Trisungo to verify progress on public housing. Discussions involving Commissioner Castelli, ERAP President Tommaso Fagioli, and entrepreneur Diego Della Valle focused on ongoing activities and the future revitalization of the affected territories. ERAP Marche continues to maintain Emergency Housing Solutions (SAE) in the Marche region and has approved maintenance for housing structures owned by the Municipality of Arquata del Tronto. By August 2026, ERAP Marche reported the implementation and maintenance of 1,943 SAE units across 28 municipalities, with 1,698 located in the province of Macerata. To support these residents, a maintenance structure was established with a central hub in Ancona and decentralized facilities in Camerino and Arquata del Tronto. In San Severino Marche, reconstruction data shows that of 1,256 buildings declared uninhabitable, 1,008 reconstruction applications have been filed. Financial allocations include over 40 million euros for public works, approximately 481,965 euros for 782 private reconstruction interventions, and over 733,000 euros designated for the relocation of productive activities. Major reconstruction works for the historic center of Arquata del Tronto have officially commenced. This 71 million euro seismic stabilization project, with approximately 50 million euros dedicated to stabilization and support, is considered essential infrastructure to allow for the subsequent reconstruction of both public and private buildings. The technical plan involves advanced anti-seismic engineering, including the use of specialized drilling machines, micropiles, and two large underground reinforced concrete shafts to support 328 permanent active tie-rods. Additionally, progress is being made in Pescara del Tronto through approved urban planning variations and risk mitigation projects. Furthering regional modernization, ERAP Marche has secured over 60.7 million euros through the PNRR REPower measure for the energy requalification of 108 public housing buildings.
