Central Java illegal cigarette crackdown

Authorities in Central Java, specifically within the Pekalongan Regency and surrounding areas, have launched intensified campaigns to combat the circulation of illegal cigarettes. These efforts involve partnerships between local governments, customs offices, village officials, and tourism communities to protect tobacco excise revenue, which is used to fund social programs and welfare payments.

In Pekalongan, the initiative includes public education and enforcement measures that have previously resulted in the seizure of over 10 million illegal cigarettes. Concurrently, the regency is planning to expand tobacco-growing areas to boost production.

Broadening the scope to the provincial level, officials in Central Java have urged the public to avoid illicit products to prevent financial losses to state and regional revenues.
