Cersaie 2026: Architectural shifts and 2027 design trends
The 43rd edition of the Cersaie international exhibition in Bologna highlighted a significant industry shift toward treating ceramic tile as an integral architectural system rather than a simple surface finish. Following the exhibition, emerging design trends for 2027 indicate a move toward warmer, earthy palettes—including deep creams, chestnut browns, and ochres—which are expected to replace cool grays and whites. Other influential styles include Art Deco geometry, mid-century modernism, and nature-inspired textures. Some manufacturers are also moving toward bold, saturated colors like deep burgundy, earthy terracottas, and vibrant reds and yellows, using color as a primary design tool. Technological advancements were a central theme, featuring 3D textured surfaces, large-format tiles, and digital printing. Innovations included VitrA Tiles’ “Material Intelligence” approach and V-Flex, a glue-free installation solution. Sustainability also remained a priority, with a focus on recycled content and low-impact materials, such as those used in Wow Design’s “The Unexpected” project. Spanish manufacturers constituted the second-largest exhibiting group at the event, demonstrating a balance between traditional craftsmanship and advanced production technology. group, with Porcelanosa Grupo reporting high engagement with large-format tiles. Notable collections showcased included Eterea by Gardenia&Ariana (an ABK Group brand), which uses porcelain stoneware to emulate onyx through smooth surfaces and three-dimensional fluted wall tiles designed to create architectural depth. The event drew approximately 92,000 to 100,000 visitors, maintaining a strong international presence despite geopolitical challenges and industry concerns regarding high energy costs and EU emissions policies.
