A search and rescue operation was initiated in Colombia following the disappearance of a Cessna T206 aircraft, registration HK4985, on September 13, 2026. The aircraft, operated by the Colombian Civil Air Patrol, was traveling from Condoto to Guaymaral with five people on board: pilot Mehmet Cankaya and four passengers, Perla Costanza Álvarez, Sandy García, María Guzmán, and Yuliza Figueredo. After the last communication at 9:23 a.m., an emergency locator beacon was activated near Cerro Tatamá. On September 14, the Colombian Air Force reported finding debris or signs of the aircraft in a mountainous, forested area near the Tatamá National Natural Park in the municipality of Pueblo Rico, Risaralda, at an altitude of approximately 9,000 feet. On September 15, the Colombian Aerospace Force and rescue teams located the wreckage in the Oscordó rural area. Due to the steep terrain, dense forest, and heavy fog, rescue teams were dropped by helicopter in a nearby area and had to reach the crash site on foot. Authorities have confirmed that all five occupants were found dead. The passengers were identified as Colombian healthcare professionals returning to Bogotá after participating in a medical humanitarian mission to provide specialized services to vulnerable communities in the Chocó region. Search efforts involved over 150 volunteers and military aircraft, including UH-60 Black Hawk and Bell-212 helicopters. The operation faced significant challenges due to dense fog, heavy rainfall, and the difficult jungle terrain near the border of Chocó and Risaralda. President Abelardo De La Espriella confirmed there were no survivors. Recent reports further identify the pilot, Mehmet Cankaya, as a Turkish businessman.
