Spanish Health Minister Mónica García Gómez has faced criticism regarding claims that her administration corrected previous neglect and positioned Ceuta as a leader in medical staffing and specialties. An investigation into the region's healthcare access revealed difficulties, including unsuccessful attempts to reach the Ceuta University Hospital emergency line. Following these reports, healthcare unions have denounced the National Institute of Health Management (INGESA) for failing to accurately record medical activity and for IT failures that cause patient records to disappear. The SATSE nursing union has specifically accused INGESA of failing to accurately record daily medical activity, particularly regarding emergency and fast-track services. SATSE also challenged the Ministry of Health’s claims regarding new staff hires, characterizing them as extensions of existing contracts rather than new positions. Additionally, medical staff have reported an escalation in physical danger, noting that healthcare workers are treating patients carrying knives and firearms. The UGT-SP SANIDAD union reported physical assaults against ambulance personnel, leading to injuries and medical leave.
