Chaco provincial development and regional integration

The Chaco provincial government has focused on both local infrastructure implementation and regional development advocacy.

Locally, Governor Leandro Zdero has initiated several urban projects, including paving, drainage, and lighting works in Resistencia and Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña to improve connectivity and mitigate flooding risks. The administration is also providing support to local sports clubs in Juan José Castelli.

On a broader scale, Chaco delegates participated in the 59th Plenary Session of the Parlamento del Norte Grande in La Rioja. This meeting brought together 130 legislators from ten provinces in the NOA and NEA regions to establish a common regional agenda centered on development, production, and federalism.

Chaco presented 19 proposals to foster regional integration, including requests for differential electricity rates, reviews of tolls on national routes and the General Belgrano Bridge, improved air connectivity, and incentives for the cotton industry. Discussions also addressed industrial opportunities such as biomass-based biorefineries, renewable energy, and regional infrastructure like highways and the Hidrovía.

During the session, led by figures such as La Rioja Governor Ricardo Quintela and Santiago del Estero Vice-Governor Carlos Silva Neder, the assembly addressed a severe economic crisis. Legislators issued a joint manifesto warning of a critical industrial crisis, noting that industrial capacity utilization has dropped to 57% and approximately 97,000 direct jobs have been lost since December 2023. A central demand was the establishment of a federal law for differentiated electricity tariffs in warm zones to account for high summer consumption and offset gas subsidy cuts. The session concluded with an emphasis on unifying regional demands to ensure the North remains a productive part of the national agenda despite paralyzed public works and national economic policies.
