Chareidi financial support for military detainees

Overview

A community financial initiative known as “Kele 1000” (Prison 1000) has been established to support the families of Bnei Torah individuals arrested by Israeli military authorities for refusing enlistment orders.

The fund provides NIS 1,000 for every full day an eligible individual spends in military custody. It is designed to mitigate financial burdens such as legal fees, travel costs for prison visits, and lost income for family members. To qualify, the arrest must be unexpected; those who voluntarily present themselves to authorities are ineligible.

Managed by a committee of senior rabbinic judges and halachic authorities, the program operates on a mutual-aid model. Participants contribute a monthly administrative fee and a small daily amount during eligible arrests. The initiative is expanding through various Chareidi communities, yeshivos, and kollelim.
