In Northern Cyprus, local municipalities have organized charity marathons to support community needs. Initially, plans were announced for two major events: the inaugural İskele International Half Marathon to fund facilities for the Ötüken Special Education and Vocational Training School, and the 7th Girne Half Marathon to provide financial aid to families affected by a recent maritime disaster. Following the scheduled date, the İskele Half Marathon was held under the slogan ‘Every Step is a Future’. Organized by the İskele Municipality, the event included various racing categories to raise funds for the Ötüken school. Planned improvements for the school include an accessible indoor swimming pool, two classrooms, and an ‘Accessible Life and Skill House’. Officials noted İskele Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu stated that the event served both serves a social purpose and an beyond sports, as registration proceeds will fund projects for the school. Ferhat Sakallı, President of the TRNC Athletics Federation, noted the importance of international participation, describing the marathon as a significant opportunity to promote the TRNC internationally. internationally and to help overcome existing sports embargoes.
