Charlyne Brumskine, a Liberian jurist, began her term as a judge at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice for the 2026–2030 period. Her appointment marked the first time a Liberian woman has served on the regional court. Following her initial appointment, Brumskine was elected President of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria. She succeeds Ricardo Cláudio Gonçalves of Cape Verde and will lead the court for a four-year term ending in 2030. Alongside Vice-President Désiré Henri Aiaïho of Benin, Brumskine and the new college of judges are tasked with executing the ‘Justice 2030’ strategic plan, which focuses on improving judicial efficiency, visibility, and public trust. The new college of judges includes Awa Bah from Gabon, Henrietta Uzoamaka Didigu from Nigeria, and Yaouza Ouro-Sama from Togo. Following the election, Brumskine was officially sworn in to begin her mandate.
