Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, has been charged with pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree murder, driving under the influence, and reckless driving following a fatal collision in Chatsworth, Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege that Rios was speeding and driving a gray 2004 Ford Expedition at high speed while impaired by drugs when she ran a red light and drove her vehicle the wrong way down De Soto Avenue and struck Avenue, striking a Metro bus, killing two passengers, Line 166 bus. The collision killed passengers Daniel Castillo Castillo, 46, and Gage Weida. The legal proceedings have faced setbacks Weida, 31, and injured five others. Authorities reported that suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were recovered from Rios’ vehicle. District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the incident as Rios’s arraignment has been delayed for a third time. Defense attorneys have cited ‘preventable tragedy.’ Legal proceedings at the San Fernando Superior Court faced multiple delays due to Rios’ ongoing medical issues for conditions resulting from the delays; during crash. During a recent court appearance, Rios was transported to the courthouse on a hospital gurney but was unable to enter the courtroom. Rios remains held on approximately $4.1 million bail and faces a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.
