The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have begun a coaching overhaul for the 2027 IPL season following the departure of long-serving coach Stephen Fleming. Zaheer Khan was appointed as the franchise’s first Indian head coach on a one-year contract. Former batter Wasim Jaffer supported the move, stating Khan possesses a “wise head on his shoulders”. Following this appointment, Khan selected former Indian pacer Mohit Sharma to join the support staff as the team’s bowling coach, succeeding Eric Simmons. Sharma, 38, previously played 48 matches for the franchise across four seasons before retiring from professional cricket in December 2025. This restructuring aims to help the five-time champions return to the playoffs after failing to qualify since 2024. Further changes to the CSK support staff are expected in the coming weeks.
