Chișinău waste and wastewater infrastructure modernization

Overview

Chișinău is undertaking significant infrastructure improvements to address environmental and public health concerns. A contract worth over 170 million lei (approximately 8.5 million euros) was signed between Apă-Canal Chișinău and the TURBOENERGY POWER & MASS association to complete the modernization of the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), this project aims to resolve long-standing issues such as severe odors in the Botanica, Centru, and Ciocana sectors.

Parallel efforts are focused on waste management in the Ciocana sector, where a temporary landfill has undergone reclamation and securing processes to mitigate environmental risks. Additionally, a new waste sorting line is under construction at the site to modernize municipal waste management and improve resident quality of life.
