In the Dominican Republic, police successfully rescued a four-year-old boy, Sammy Ciprián Gabriel, who had been abducted from his home in the Los Tres Brazos sector of Santo Domingo Este. Authorities located the child safe in the Capotillo sector of the National District following a police operation and citizen alerts. Surveillance footage identified a 12-year-old girl as the person responsible for the abduction, showing her carrying the child on her back. Reports indicate the minor had escaped from the National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI) approximately five days prior to the incident and was living on the streets. The child's mother, Chantal Gabriel Bonhomme, stated that she did not initially suspect the teenager because she “appeared to be a child.” According to CONANI, the teenager is believed to suffer from a mental health condition and has a history of escaping various medical and residential protection facilities, including a recent unauthorized departure from a center on September 28. The 12-year-old girl was taken to Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital for hydration and psychological evaluation before being referred to the Specialized Prosecutor for Children and Adolescents. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the event and whether any adults were involved in inducing the minor to take the child.
