Authorities in Brazil and Argentina have conducted investigations and arrests related to the abuse of minors. In Palotina, Paraná, a 27-year-old man was arrested following reports from an early childhood education center regarding a 2-year-old girl with severe physical injuries. Civil Police are investigating the case as ‘tortura-castigo’ (torture-punishment), noting that the child may have suffered recurring injuries over a two-month period. The suspect has denied the allegations, attributing the injuries to falls. In Argentina, police arrested two men in separate cases. In Banfield, a former maintenance worker was arrested following a two-year investigation into the sexual abuse of a 3-year-old student at a private kindergarten. In the Avellaneda department of Santiago del Estero, a 33-year-old man, identified as Julio Vivas, was arrested following allegations of sexual abuse against his 10-year-old stepdaughter. The case was discovered at the Colonia Dora Hospital, where medical professionals found the child was approximately six months pregnant during a consultation for abdominal pain. An obstetrician alerted authorities after confirming the pregnancy and hearing the child’s allegations. Prosecutor Guillermo Farías ordered the investigation, and police seized the suspect’s mobile phone for forensic analysis. New details indicate the child's mother previously believed the girl had not yet reached menstruation. The girl's grandmother, Norma Gómez, stated she had warned her daughter, Andrea, about trusting Vivas, whom she met through online communications. Police executed the arrest warrant at a residence in the rural El Bracho area. Further investigation into the Vivas case revealed that the 25-year-old mother also met the suspect through social media and lived with him and her four minor children. Medical examinations also found that the mother is currently pregnant and has reportedly been subjected to violence and intimidation by the suspect.
