Portuguese authorities have conducted separate investigations into child sexual exploitation and pornography. In Lisbon, a 28-year-old IT professional was arrested by the Polícia Judiciária for allegedly grooming and blackmailing at least 12 minors across Portugal. The suspect reportedly used social media to obtain explicit images and videos, subsequently threatening to distribute the content to families and schools to compel further material. He was released under specific judicial conditions, including a prohibition on contacting minors and restricted internet access. In Ferreira do Zêzere, a 42-year-old man was placed in preventive detention following a police operation judicial interrogation in Santarém. The arrest followed a Polícia Judiciária home search that uncovered more than 7,000 files containing images and videos of child sexual abuse. The investigation, initiated by the Leiria Criminal Investigation Department, revealed abuse, some involving very young children. Authorities noted that the file count may increase as forensic analysis of seized computers, hard drives, and mobile phones continues. The investigation into the Ferreira do Zêzere suspect began in November 2025 after the sharing of such content was detected on the internet. The suspect, who lived with a partner and two stepchildren, was previously serving a suspended sentence for similar crimes committed in 2022.
