Chile economic development push
Entities: ProChile · Universidad de Chile · Ignacio Fernández · Henry Azurmendi · Sercotec
Overview
In June 2026 Chile promoted its tourism sector and attracted new French private investment. A delegation of 20 companies attended Fiexpo Latin America 2026 in Costa Rica, showcasing convention‑bureaus, hotels and event specialists under the Sernatur “Meet in Chile” programme. The effort helped Chile climb to 39th globally for international congresses and secure a pledge of at least US$6 billion from French firms for energy, infrastructure and mining projects, complementing the existing US$2 billion of French investment.
A month later, Chile shifted focus to domestic exporters and small‑business sustainability. ProChile announced 2027 export‑promotion contests covering silvo‑agro‑forestry, creative industries and services, offering co‑financing of up to 60 % for micro‑ and small firms. In parallel, Sercotec, with the University of Chile, launched the Impact Sustainable Seal programme to recognise and advise 25 micro‑ and small enterprises or cooperatives on sustainable practices. The combined initiatives aim to broaden Chile’s economic base, linking foreign investment attraction with export growth and SME sustainability.
