The nationwide push to equip Chilean classrooms with modern hardware continued throughout July. After JUNAEB’s distribution of more than 560 notebooks in Los Andes and earlier private‑sector donations, the agency’s Beca TIC programme delivered 73 laptops to seventh‑grade students in Pencahue, Maule region, on 30 July. The devices—featuring 128 GB SSDs, Full‑HD screens, anti‑theft tracking and a suite of over 65 educational applications—include a year of free internet access. Regional JUNAEB director Patricio Uribe said the rollout “levels the playing field” for vulnerable children, while local officials praised the contribution to learning. This distribution is part of a regional effort that has supplied more than 8,300 computers this year and brings the national total of Beca TIC laptops to 96,100, reinforcing Chile’s broader strategy of combining public investment and private donations to close the digital divide in both remote and urban schools. Later in July, JUNAEB expanded the Beca TIC rollout to the north, handing out more than 1,400 notebooks in Iquique and Alto Hospicio and over 2,000 devices in the Tarapacá region. The deliveries, coordinated with regional education authorities and the Ministry of Education, provide the same specifications – 12‑month free internet, GPS anti‑theft, latest‑generation processors, 128 GB SSDs, Full‑HD displays, AI tools and access to the educational software suite – to seventh‑grade pupils in public, subsidised private and special‑needs schools. Regional director Freddy Araneda highlighted the program’s role in ensuring all students receive the technological resources needed for modern education.
