Chilean agricultural and infrastructure developments

Overview

In the Maule Region, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) has commenced the 2026-2027 mountain grazing season. This involves moving approximately 25,000 sheep, cattle, goats, and horses across 300,000 hectares of terrain. To protect zoosanitary heritage, SAG is implementing animal traceability programs for roughly 200 producers. The season has officially opened with the activation of the El Melado sanitary barrier, managing animal movement across 66 grazing fields.

Infrastructure and community investments have expanded across several regions. In Maule, the construction of the Mataquito substation in Hualañé is underway to improve electrical resilience and support renewable energy. Educational projects include $18.8 billion for the replacement of the Liceo San José del Carmen in Palmilla, while Rauco has received over $265 million for gymnasium conservation and sidewalk repairs.

In the Santiago Metropolitan Region, $514 million was approved to enhance the Alameda central median through green space and accessibility improvements. In Tarapacá, the Regional Council approved nearly $1.9 billion for street and sidewalk renovations in Villa Vista Hermosa, Iquique, and over $1.2 billion for a hybrid microgrid in Macaya to provide continuous electricity to 99 families.

In the Los Lagos Region, a $6 billion CLP public tender was launched for infrastructure improvements in Chaitén, focusing on streets, sidewalks, and drainage. Additionally, SAG reported a detection of American foulbrood, a bacterial disease affecting bee larvae, in Calama. Authorities are inspecting local apiaries and advising beekeepers to increase biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

In Atacama, CORPROA concluded a reconstruction campaign that distributed 315 kits to families in the Huasco commune affected by weather systems in July.
