Chilean government and private sector SME support

Overview

In early October 2026, Sercotec organized the first National Meeting of Free Market Leaders at the Lo Valledor wholesale market to commemorate National Street Vendor Day. The event, attended by over 200 leaders, aimed to recognize career achievements and provide training. Officials noted that Chile’s 1,455 free markets generate more than 440,000 jobs, with a majority of participants being women.

By mid-October, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expanded through a partnership between Sercotec and Walmart Chile. As part of this collaboration, Walmart Chile awarded 31 entrepreneurs during its third Growth Summit to boost SME growth. Additionally, a formal agreement was signed to allow Sercotec program beneficiaries to sell products through designated stands and fairs within Lider supermarket branches, aiming to increase market access for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
