Chilean influenza vaccine audit and loss

Overview

An audit by Chile’s Comptroller General revealed a loss of over 3.6 billion pesos due to the expiration of 762,326 influenza vaccine doses from Sinovac Biotech Co. Ltda. and Sanofi Pasteur S.A. These doses were never distributed during the 2024 campaign while held at logistics facilities.

The investigation found that the Undersecretariat of Public Health could not demonstrate that adequate measures were taken to redistribute the stock. In total, the 2024 campaign lost approximately 12.46% of its available supply. The audit also noted traceability issues for over 2.9 million doses and identified administrative irregularities involving vaccination records dated after the recorded deaths of certain individuals.
