The Chilean Investigative Police (PDI) has implemented several organizational and leadership changes across different regions. In the Chilean Antarctic Province, the PDI launched the Puerto Williams Integral Brigade. This unit, which evolved from the Puerto Williams Border Advance, expands local functions to include criminal investigation and analysis alongside existing immigration and international policing duties. The brigade operates in coordination with the Public Ministry and local prosecutors, supported by a new police headquarters currently under construction. In other regions, the PDI has appointed new leadership. In Los Lagos, Inspector Prefect Juan Orellana Campos assumed the role of regional chief in Puerto Montt, succeeding the retired Inspector Prefect Sergio Alvear. In Tarapacá, Inspector Prefect José Contreras Hernández took command, succeeding the retired Inspector Prefect Mauricio Jorquera Ramírez. Contreras Hernández has indicated a focus on optimizing investigative work and combating organized crime in the northern macro-zone. Further leadership transitions have occurred in the Maule and Biobío regions. In Maule, Inspector Prefect Javier González Rojas assumed command, succeeding Luis Salazar Vera, who retired after nearly 34 years of service. In Biobío, Inspector Prefect Carolina Namor Esbry has been appointed as the new regional head. Esbry, who has 34 years of service, previously served as the head of the Aysén region and as the national head of International Cooperation against organized crime. Her mandate will focus on coordinating specialized brigades and the Public Ministry to address violent crime and drug trafficking.
