The Local Public Education Service (SLEP) in Chiloé has begun distributing tablets to 19 educational establishments, primarily in rural sectors, through a 25 million peso investment. This initiative aims to support digital textbooks and bilingual intercultural education by integrating English studies with native language preservation. This follows previous technological investments by SLEP Chiloé, including 309 notebooks and 141 All-in-One computers totaling 286 million pesos. On a national level, the Chilean Senate Education Commission has approved a bill that would extend the implementation and transfer process of SLEPs until 2040. This proposal allows for the postponement of the remaining 12 SLEP installations and seeks to modify requirements for municipalities to retain control of schools. While the bill aims to adjust the implementation calendar, some experts have expressed concern that the extension could delay the definitive strengthening of the public education system. Regional developments continue as SLEP del Tamarugal introduced its Local Strategic Plan (PEL) for 2026-2032. Developed through community participation, the plan covers 45 institutions across Pozo Almonte, Camiña, Pica, Huara, and Colchane, impacting approximately 7,070 students. Executive Director Andrea Osorio described the plan as a “collective commitment” to provincial educational development. In Iquique, the SLEP Iquique reported progress in the 2025 Teacher Evaluation Process, with 57.2% of professionals achieving categories A or B. ~~Additionally, student engagement remains active through historical tours in Santiago for Colegio El Salvador students and leadership workshops organized by the Maule Costa~~ Following recent adverse weather conditions, SLEP ~~in collaboration with the University~~ Iquique has now successfully rehabilitated all 42 of ~~Talca~~ its educational establishments. Repair efforts included fixing roofs and over 3,400 square meters of ceilings, making 581 classrooms functional, and conducting 20,500 square meters of sanitization. Executive Director Najle Majluf Morales stated that reaching 100% rehabilitation “restores service continuity and provides peace of mind to the ~~National Youth Institute (INJUV).~~ community.”
