President José Antonio Kast has initiated a series of high-level appointments within the Chilean military. Aviation General Leonardo Romanini Gutiérrez has been named the new Commander in Chief of the Chilean Air Force (FACh), succeeding Air General Hugo Rodríguez González. On October 30, a change of command ceremony was held at El Bosque Air Base in Santiago. The event was attended by President Kast, Defense Minister Fernando Barros Ortiz, Senate President Paulina Núñez, and former presidents Michelle Bachelet and Gabriel Boric. During the ceremony, General Romanini was awarded the Collar of the Grand Cross of the President of the Republic decoration. While the ceremony occurred on October 30, Romanini is scheduled to officially formally assume his duties four-year term on November 5. Following this transition, Air Force General Máximo Venegas Raggio has been appointed as the new Chief of the Joint Staff (EMCO) for a two-year term. The appointment was announced during an audience at La Moneda Palace, attended by Defense Minister Barros and the outgoing chief, General Romanini. Venegas succeeds Romanini in this role. The Joint Staff, which operates under the Ministry of National Defense, is responsible for strategic planning and coordinating the capabilities of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
