Mining stakeholders in Chile have engaged in various efforts to strengthen regional supply chains and industry standards. In late September 2026, a delegation from the Antofagasta region presented specialized services—including engineering, tailings management, and automation software—at the Expomina 2026 exhibition in Peru to establish international commercial links. By late October 2026, focus shifted toward domestic collaboration with the formalization of the ‘Compromiso Atacama’ agreement during the EXPO FOREDE 2026 inauguration in Copiapó. Led by the Corporación para el Desarrollo de la Región de Atacama (Corproa), (Corproa) and the Atacama Mining Cluster, this initiative involves 17 mining companies, including Barrick, Capstone Copper, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP), ENAMI, Eramet, Fenix Gold, Gold Fields, Kinross, Lundin Mining, Minera Altair, Norte Abierto, NuevaUnión, Pucobre, Salar Blanco, and SCM Carola. The agreement, which was presented to Chilean President José Antonio Kast, aims to enhance local supplier participation and human capital development through a 2025–2028 Roadmap. Key components include implementing common contracting standards to reduce procedural differences, creating a regional platform to facilitate supplier connections, and aligning technical and professional training with industry requirements. During the forum, regional leaders also addressed critical needs regarding security, infrastructure, and the reduction of bureaucratic hurdles for investment projects. The mining sector remains a critical economic driver for the Atacama region, accounting for 36.1% of its GDP and supporting approximately 92,000 direct and indirect jobs.
