In August 2026, developments regarding Chilean school leadership included both administrative appointments and professional recognition. In the Elqui Local Public Education Service (SLEP Elqui) territory, six new directors were appointed to schools in La Serena, Paihuano, and La Higuera. These directors, selected through the Alta Dirección Pública (ADP) system for five-year terms, aim to assist in regularizing leadership positions and ensuring administrative compliance. Concurrently, several Chilean school directors were honored at the fourth edition of the Premio LED 2026, organized by Fundación Impulso Docente. Award recipients included Docente in collaboration with several partners including El Mercurio and Fundación MC, recognized 30 educational leaders across Chile. The awardees were selected from 1,243 nominations and 60 finalists representing all 16 regions of the country. Winners were chosen across five categories: Convivencia e Inclusión, Articulación con el Medio, Aprendizajes Base y Resultados Académicos, Educación Inicial, and Innovación Educativa y Competencias para el Siglo XXI. Among the recognized leaders are Danitza Correa from the Magallanes region for promoting diversity and equity, Alejandra Brevis from Puerto Natales for academic results, and Marianella Segovia Villarroel from Calama for educational innovation. An official award ceremony is scheduled for October 27 in Santiago, where winners will join the Red de Líderes LED.
