Overview
China’s anti-corruption efforts have expanded in scope and intensity. Data indicates that the campaign reached a peak in 2025, with 65 high-ranking officials investigated—more than triple the 19 cases recorded in 2013. Between 2013 and 2025, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) investigated approximately 457 officials at the vice-minister level or higher, often referred to as ‘tigers.’
Building on these domestic efforts, the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee has begun reviewing a draft law to combat cross-border corruption. This legislation aims to improve the ability of Chinese authorities to pursue, repatriate, and convict officials accused of graft who have fled the country. This legislative move follows directives to enhance international cooperation, building upon ‘Operation Sky Net,’ which has reportedly resulted in the repatriation of over 3,000 officials from roughly 120 countries.
