China new energy vehicle service trends

Overview

In the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) market, after-sales service trends are showing significant divergence. While some brands like AITO have achieved high service capability scores through proactive measures such as remote diagnostics and big data-driven maintenance, the broader industry faces rising challenges.

A J.D. Power study reported that the problem occurrence rate for NEVs in China increased to 46.1% in 2026, a 12% rise from the previous year. Much of this difficulty is attributed to the complexity of smart functions rather than hardware issues. Furthermore, repair costs for NEVs are reportedly 1.7 times higher than those for internal combustion engine vehicles, driven by expensive sensors and integrated die-casting bodies, which in turn impacts insurance premiums and consumer satisfaction.
