By mid‑2026 Chinese automakers had entrenched a dominant position in Brazil’s automotive sector. In July, Chinese‑made cars and light commercial vehicles captured a record 22.8 % of total sales, amounting to 60,486 units – a 17.9 % rise from the previous month. Brazil also became the world’s largest importer of Chinese vehicles, with imports worth US$5.2 billion from January to May, of which US$4.5 billion were electrified models. The surge extended beyond passenger cars. Chinese tractors accounted for US$200.4 million of imports (14,985 units) between January and June, priced 30‑40 % below domestic alternatives and representing about two‑thirds of Brazil’s tractor imports. Great Wall Motors reported global July sales of 108,067 vehicles, 62,015 sold outside China, with Brazil highlighted as a key market. The Chinese‑linked brand Lepas announced a rollout of 11 compact models over the next two years to target low‑price segments. Domestic sales data showed the Fiat Strada pickup leading July sales with 14,912 units, while BYD’s Dolphin Mini (7,265) and Dolphin (6,492) entered the top ten, and Geely’s electric EX2 debuted at ninth place. BYD’s new plant in Bahia aims to reach an annual output of 300,000 electric vehicles by the end of 2026. Overall, Brazil recorded 265,148 new vehicle registrations in July, a 2.1 % month‑on‑month increase, underscoring the expanding role of Chinese electric and hybrid models in reshaping the market. July 2026 also marked a record‑high used‑car turnover, with 1,754,785 vehicle transfers—a 10.7 % rise from June. BYD’s market share grew from 4.3 % in July 2025 to 9.1 % a year later, highlighting the rapid ascent of Chinese manufacturers in Brazil’s automotive landscape.
