These transactions occur primarily through private social media groups on platforms like WeChat, with users paying subscription fees to access cryptic cues and leaked details about Communist Party cadres.

Authorities are concerned that “moles” within the government may be providing early information before official announcements are made. To bypass censorship, administrators utilize digital “guerrilla warfare” tactics, frequently moving members between different chat groups.

This information market coincides with high-level political instability and purges. Reports indicate that the anti-corruption campaign has targeted significant military figures, including former Central Military Commission vice-chair Zhang Youxia and member Liu Zhenli. These developments have been linked to broader power struggles and allegations of factions attempting to challenge President Xi Jinping’s authority.
