Actress Christina Applegate has made her first social media appearance following a lengthy hospitalization that lasted from late March until August. In a video shared on Instagram, the 54-year-old star debuted a new blonde hairstyle and used humor to address a mark on her face, which she referred to as a ‘new weird spot’. Applegate, who has been managing multiple sclerosis since 2021, also shared that she has taken up drawing as a relaxing new hobby and encouraged followers to find calming activities. However, Applegate later revealed on her podcast, ‘MeSsy’, co-hosted with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, that she was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She noted that recent medical investigations using new technology have ruled out MS. The reversal occurred after doctors suggested pausing her MS infusion treatments to observe her body's response; subsequent discrepancies in her B-cell levels triggered a more extensive review of her case. Despite this the medical correction, her physical condition has not improved and has, in some respects, worsened. She continues to face significant mobility issues, including the need for a wheelchair and a cane. Applegate expressed significant emotional distress over the news, stating she felt she was ‘back at square one’ without an explanation for her ongoing neurological symptoms. She noted, ‘I was, like, not happy at all. Everybody else was so happy.’ Appearing on the podcast, neurologist Neurologist Dr. Marwa Kaisey noted that MS misdiagnoses are not uncommon because there is no single definitive test and symptoms often overlap with other conditions. Having previously become a prominent advocate for the MS community, Applegate shared that the situation has caused deep depression and impacted her career, remarking, ‘I feel like I let everybody down.’ Her medical team is currently conducting a new investigation to determine the true cause of her health issues.
