Chungnam Province is pursuing diverse economic growth strategies through international market expansion and domestic industrial specialization. In late October 2026, the province launched initiatives to increase the North American market presence of local small and medium-sized enterprises. A market development group of 20 companies specializing in food, cosmetics, and industrial goods conducted business consultations in New York and Toronto from October 25 to 31. Simultaneously, Governor Park Su-hyeon conducted a diplomatic mission to the United States to explore AI-driven societal collaborations at the New Jersey AI Hub and discuss international AI policy with United Nations officials. The province also secured large-scale investment agreements with three global companies. Domestically, the province is working to establish itself as a global hub for the K-defense industry via the Chungnam-Nonsan Defense Innovation Cluster project. This initiative involves significant investments through 2030, focusing on advanced technologies such as AI-powered defense robots. For the current year, the province is allocating 58.34 billion won toward 28 projects, including the establishment of the Nonsan National Defense Industrial Complex and the construction of a Defense Future Aviation Research Center. The Chungnam Defense Industry Development Council is also working to strengthen cooperation between research institutes, universities, and private companies. To support high-tech industrial growth, the province held its second task force meeting to oversee a 202 trillion won investment plan. This initiative utilizes a rapid administrative support system to assist major investors, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, and SK Telecom. The task force focuses on five key areas: corporate cooperation, permit support, infrastructure development, workforce support, and financial assistance. Early results of this accelerated administration include reducing permit processing times for Samsung Electronics’ Onyang Campus from ten months to three months, and shortening permit periods for Samsung Display’s Asan Display City 2 from four months to one month.
