Arizona Wildcats defeat Cincinnati Bearcats 34-7

Overview

The Arizona Wildcats defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 34-7 in their Big 12 home opener at Casino Del Sol Stadium. Despite losing three top receivers—Gio Richardson, Chris Hunter, and Tre Spivey—to injuries during the first half, Arizona maintained control of the matchup.

Quarterback Noah Fifita led the offense with 284 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and an 8-yard rushing touchdown. Arizona’s defense was a decisive factor, neutralizing Cincinnati’s rushing attack by holding them to just 74 yards on 28 attempts, a sharp decline from their 270-yard season average. Arizona’s scoring also included a 10-yard touchdown run by Kedrick Reescano and a 24-yard touchdown pass from Fifita to Brandon Phelps. Cincinnati’s lone score came late in the fourth quarter via a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback JC French IV.

The victory follows a challenging week for the Wildcats, during which a Pima County judge ruled that running back Ismail Mahdi and linebacker Max Harris were ineligible due to ongoing legal challenges regarding NCAA eligibility rules. With this win, Arizona improves to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
