The Cincinnati Reds have engaged in several roster adjustments involving waiver claims and designations. In early August, the team claimed right-handed relievers Ron Marinaccio and Chase Selesky off waivers. This move allowed the Reds to move outfielder Blake Dunn to the 60-day injured list, freeing up a spot on the 40-man roster. Later in the month, the Reds placed veteran infielder Eugenio Suárez and TJ Friedl on outright waivers in an attempt to potentially offload remaining salary before the postseason eligibility deadline. While reports previously suggested the Seattle Mariners might be a frontrunner to claim Suárez, neither player was claimed by another Major League Baseball organization once the 48-hour waiver period concluded. As a result, both Suárez and Friedl have cleared waivers and will remain with the Reds for the remainder of the season and are expected to be available for upcoming series against season. The move comes as the Chicago Cubs. This follows Reds, currently at a difficult season for both veterans; Suárez 63-71 record, face slim postseason chances and look toward offseason roster management. Suárez, a 35-year-old designated hitter, is batting .208 with 19 home runs, while Friedl runs and 57 RBIs in 103 games; notably, he recently tied a Venezuelan MLB record by hitting his 10th career grand slam. The Reds are owed approximately $3 million for the remainder of his $15 million contract. Friedl, a 31-year-old outfielder, has recorded a .476 OPS. OPS and remains under team control for the next two seasons.
