The illegal streaming platform Cineby announced a permanent shutdown scheduled for August 26, 2026. This decision follows intensified international legal pressure and judicial actions, including global blocking orders in the United Kingdom, Canada, and India. The shutdown affects affiliated sites Cineplay and Fmovies+, with plans to close all servers and delete user accounts. Following the shutdown, reports indicate a broader crackdown on the illicit streaming ecosystem. In addition to the Cineby deactivation, at least seven illegal IPTV providers have been compromised by hackers, leading to potential data exploitation of tens of thousands of subscribers. As of August 31, 2026, the deactivation of the film and series streaming components is underway. The shutdown of this “digital piracy ecosystem” is being executed in stages, having already seen the redirection of mirror domains and the disabling of sports, anime, and file download features. All user accounts have been deleted, and the final domains are scheduled to go offline permanently on September 5, 2026. While no specific reason for the closure was provided, the Motion Picture Association noted that the Cineby main site alone recorded over 160 million visits in the last month.
