Journalist Ada Guzmán Calcaño has been elected president of the Círculo de Periodistas de la Salud (CIPESA) for the 2026–2028 term. Leading the ‘CIPESA Somos Todos’ slate, Guzmán secured her victory during elections held on October 24, 2026, at the Colegio Dominicano de Periodistas (CDP). The election saw a participation rate of approximately 62%, with 155 votes cast from a membership roll of 252. The process utilized both in-person and virtual voting, enabling members in locations such as Spain, Miami, and Colombia to participate. The Electoral Commission Commission, led by David Lorenzo, reported 118 valid votes, 36 virtual votes, and one null vote. This level of engagement was noted as the highest recorded in the organization’s 30-year history. Guzmán’s campaign was characterized by a platform of participatory management and institutional strengthening. Her proposals include the creation of the ‘Teófilo Abreu’ National Congress of Health Communication and Journalism, updating membership registries, and establishing alliances to secure medical insurance and health protection for members. Prior to the election, Guzmán received an endorsement from the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) District National branch.
