Circle stablecoin expansion across blockchain networks
Overview
Circle has expanded the availability of its native stablecoins across various blockchain networks. On August 7, the company launched native USDC and its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) on OKX’s X Layer, an Ethereum-compatible layer-2 network. This move was intended to provide direct access to regulated USDC and reduce dependence on bridged versions of the asset.
Following this, Circle launched both native USDC and EURC stablecoins on Plasma, a Layer 1 blockchain designed for stablecoin-centric applications like payments and decentralized finance. This deployment included the integration of CCTP and the Bridge Kit, allowing for cross-chain transfers by burning tokens on a source chain and minting them on a destination chain. The Plasma integration aims to provide institutional traders and developers with fiat on/off-ramps and the ability to use both dollar and euro-denominated digital assets.
