Cirque du Soleil has launched its production ‘Alegría – In A New Light’ in Brazil, marking its first Latin American stop following a two-and-a-half-year European run. The tour begins at Parque Villa-Lobos in São Paulo, where it is scheduled to perform until November, before moving to Curitiba for a residency at the Expotrade Convention Center from November 19 to December 13. The production is a reimagining of the original 1994 show, incorporating updated technology, new costumes, and new musical numbers while retaining the core plot regarding the struggle between youth and the old order. The traveling troupe consists of 119 professionals, including 54 international artists. The tour involves significant logistical operations, including the transport of 2,500 tons of equipment. The Brazilian season features various corporate partnerships and brand activations, with sponsors including Zurich Seguros, EQI Investimentos, and Shell. This production includes six Brazilian performers on the flying trapeze team. Performers Julio Cezar and Pati Kuwai have described the intense lifestyle required for the troupe, noting that training often incorporates funk music and requires strict discipline regarding diet, training, and performance readiness. Kuwai highlighted the high energy of the Brazilian audience and the demanding schedule, which can include up to three performances in a single day.
