CISA infrastructure security and workforce initiatives

Overview

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has initiated several efforts to strengthen national and international infrastructure security.

Initially, the agency announced plans to hire approximately 250 new employees to fill critical vacancies in cybersecurity, infrastructure security, and emergency communications. This recruitment is part of a broader goal to expand the workforce by roughly 600 people. Alongside this expansion, CISA partnered with the FBI and international agencies from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom to issue guidance on maintaining transparency and accountability during IT and operational technology outages.

Subsequently, CISA released an Insider Threat Mitigation Guide designed to assist critical infrastructure operators in defending against sabotage, data theft, and cyberattacks. The guide provides frameworks and best practices to protect sensitive data and key assets, citing historical economic losses caused by employee theft of proprietary information.
