Citizen is marking the 50th anniversary of its Eco-Drive light-powered technology, which originated in 1976. To commemorate the milestone, the company has released several new models, including the limited-edition Eco-Drive PHOTON, which features a color-changing dial inspired by light wave experiments, and a new Promaster Marine professional diver’s watch. In retail contexts, Eco-Drive timepieces are being featured in consumer guides and sales, including sport casual models offered at discounts. Recent consumer guidance has also emerged to assist buyers in interpreting technical specification sheets, such as water resistance, movement type, and power reserve, to better understand the functional capabilities of timepieces. Expanding its lineup, Citizen has introduced the Classic Eco-Drive (AW0082-01A), a 42mm model featuring an ivory dial and brown leather band that utilizes light-powered technology to eliminate battery changes. Additionally, the company released the limited-edition Citizen Zenshin (AW0132-55P). This 39mm model focuses on material innovation by using Super Titanium with a Duratect Amber Yellow treatment, providing a gold-tone aesthetic with increased scratch resistance and lighter weight than traditional stainless steel. Furthermore, Citizen’s movement-manufacturing arm, Miyota, continues to supply various calibers—including the 2035 quartz, 82-series mechanical, and 90-series automatic movements—to both Citizen and external watchmakers.
