The 6th edition of the Citronela Doc documentary festival in Ilhabela, Brazil, has transitioned from its preparatory phase to its active programming period. Initially announced to run from August 25 to 30, the festival introduced significant structural changes, including the conversion of National and Regional Showcases into competitive categories. The event also established an International Showcase through a partnership with Colombia’s Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI) and a Children’s Showcase with Recria Cine. As the festival commenced, the competition featured selections from over 550 entries representing 12 Brazilian states, the Federal District, and several regional cities. Programming includes masterclasses, such as one led by filmmaker João Moreira Salles, and various awards for best feature, short, and regional films. Notable entries in the national competition include ‘A Fabulosa Máquina do Tempo’ and ‘O Pai e o Pajé’. All festival activities were offered free to the public. Following the main event, a free online showcase was held from September 1 to 10 via the Spcine Play and todesplay platforms. This digital selection provided nationwide access to award-winning Brazilian documentaries. Highlighted works included ‘A Pele do Ouro’, which examines the exploitation of women in Amazonian gold mines, ‘Cordões e Sinos de Além-Mar’, focusing on Mineiro Congadas, and ‘Janelas da Memória’, documenting the 2010 floods in São Luiz do Paraitinga.
