In late July 2026, economists reported that inflation in Ciudad Juárez eased to 2.6% in the first half of the month, well below the national average. The modest price rise was seen as a possible early sign of a broader economic recovery, yet the city continued to grapple with massive employment losses, with the formal sector shedding 40,000 jobs and the manufacturing segment losing over 75,000 positions in the preceding 35 months.

The following day, data showed that despite the labour market turmoil, land‑based export value to the United States jumped nearly 80% in May, driven primarily by road transport. The surge added roughly $7.8 billion to the city’s commercial flow compared with the prior year. At the same time, export‑focused factories cut 2,079 jobs, bringing maquiladora employment down to 251,246 workers. Analysts warned that job instability would likely persist through the rest of 2026, emphasizing the need for coordinated action to diversify the local economy as it shifts from a globalization‑focused model toward regionalization.
