Civilian casualties during the Bosnian War

Overview

Reports highlight various civilian casualties and war crimes occurring during the Bosnian War.

In August 1995, during the final days of Operation Storm, the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) shelled the civilian settlement of Matići in the Orašje municipality. The attack killed eight Croatian youths, aged 15 to 18, including four seminarians. Despite the known origins of the projectiles, no legal investigations have successfully held responsible parties accountable.

In a separate incident in August 1993, members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina conducted a raid on the village of Kiseljak near Žepče while disguised in HVO uniforms. The attack resulted in the deaths of several members of the Širić family, including a 13-year-old girl, Ivana Širić. The family continues to seek justice for the raid.
