In late July 2026, the 1993 adventure title Myst was re‑released for PlayStation 5 and PC using Unreal Engine, delivering free‑movement 3D exploration while preserving its original puzzles. The same announcement highlighted that The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind had been made playable directly in web browsers through the OpenMW‑Web project, which runs the game on the community‑maintained OpenMW engine and includes a public demo that requires a legally owned copy of the PC version. Two days later, further details on the Morrowind browser port were published. Developers compiled the OpenMW engine to WebAssembly, allowing the 2002 RPG to run natively in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium‑based browsers. The web app accesses a user‑supplied copy of the game’s data via the File System Access API, stores progress in IndexedDB, and supports modern features such as shadows, water effects and gamepad input. A small demo island is provided for users without a purchased copy, while the full game must be supplied by the player due to copyright restrictions. The OpenMW‑Web project was announced on Reddit by user Dumpster_Buddy and quickly covered by Eurogamer and Digital Foundry. Its source code is openly hosted on GitHub, and the port emphasizes local execution without streaming, with saves and settings preserved in the browser’s storage for easy archiving.
