Cloudflare Clef model release
Overview
Cloudflare has released Clef and Clef-flash, two open-weight multimodal decision models designed for classification, routing, and ranking tasks. Unlike standard chatbots, these models evaluate predefined answers against a schema to increase processing speed by avoiding token-by-token generation.
Clef is built on a 27-billion parameter Qwen3.8 backbone, while the faster, lower-latency Clef-flash utilizes a 9-billion parameter Qwen3.5 backbone. Both models are natively multimodal, capable of processing text, images, and video, and feature context windows of up to 64k or 65,536 tokens.
Available via Cloudflare’s Workers AI inference service and under the Apache License 2.0 for local use, the models are intended for specific business logic such as content moderation or support ticket prioritization. Cloudflare also introduced reinforcement learning products to allow for customized fine-tuning of the models.
