The 45th Clásica San Sebastián took place on 1 August 2026, covering 221 km with over 4,200 m of climbing. Around 50 km from the finish a piece of glass caused a puncture on the Jaizkibel descent; Evenepoel swapped bikes with teammate Giulio Pellizzari and re‑joined the lead group. On the final 2.1‑km Murgil Tontorra climb (≈10 % average gradient) he launched a decisive attack, with only Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz able to follow. Evenepoel outsprinted Carapaz to secure his fourth victory, becoming the sole record holder and surpassing Marino Lejarreda’s three wins. Ben Tulett finished third, 29 seconds back. After the win Evenepoel said he would rest before turning his focus to the World Championships in Canada, where he expects a showdown with rival Tadej Pogacar. He highlighted his strong season, including a second‑place finish in the Tour de France and several stage wins, and confirmed he rides for the Red Bull‑BORA‑Hansgrohe team.
