Following a period of disappointing results, Emelec sporting director Luis Miguel Escalada initially reaffirmed the club’s support for head coach Cristian Nasuti. Escalada stated the club intended to honor Nasuti’s existing contract and focused on improving performance to address supporter dissatisfaction. However, following a 2-0 defeat against Liga de Quito that left the club in 12th place within the relegation zone, the board dismissed Nasuti. While Nasuti and his staff will transition to roles within the club’s youth development categories, the club has appointed Argentine coaches Favio Orsi and Sergio Gómez to stabilize the first team. Jimmy Bran will serve as interim manager for the immediate upcoming match. Emelec has since appointed Argentine manager Ezequiel Medrán to lead the first team. Medrán, 45, arrived in Guayaquil on August 27, 2026, marking his first international coaching experience following previous roles with Colón, Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza, and Atlético Rafaela. He is expected to make his debut on August 30 against Leones FC at the George Capwell stadium, with the objective of improving the team’s standing in the LigaPro 2026 season.
