Colombian military operations against Frente 33

Overview

In early October 2026, Colombian military and aerospace forces conducted a joint aerial bombardment against a camp belonging to Frente 33, a faction of FARC dissidents, in the Catatumbo region of Norte de Santander. The operation utilized combat aircraft, including Tucano and Kfir models.

Initial reports indicated that between three and four individuals were killed in the strike. Subsequent details confirmed the deaths of four members, including three men and a 16-year-old girl. The National Institute of Legal Medicine noted the teenager was engaged in “continuous combat duties” at the time.

During ground operations to secure the area, three soldiers were injured by a landmine. Military forces seized a significant cache of weaponry, consisting of 10 rifles, one machine gun, two handguns, 57 magazines, and over 3,860 rounds of ammunition. The Ministry of Defense stated the operation adhered to international humanitarian law and condemned the recruitment of minors by illegal armed groups.
